weekend bookshelf: The Kite Runner
It's time for another book club this weekend! This month, we're reading The Kite Runner - not new, but a supposedly great read. Confession: I'm only about halfway through so far, but I'm greatly intrigued.
A boy, Amir, narrates this tale set in Afghanistan about his father Baba, and their servant, Ali, and his son, Hassan. Amir and Hassan are great friends growing up, despite their class differences. I truly hate giving too much away, but eventually circumstances arise where Ali and Hassan must leave Baba and Amir, who then emigrate to America. It is a heavy story, but I am so intrigued to see where it ends up. Have you read the book? What did you feel about it?
I also want to take a moment to recommend the website Goodreads, if you haven't already found it. It's such a great way to keep track of all the books you read. You can also follow your friends to keep up on what they read, and the site even gives you recommendations to future reads based on how you rate books you've read. So cool.
Hope you have a lovely weekend - only one more week until a long weekend for Memorial Day!
