weekend bookshelf: Open

andre This month, my book club is reading Open by Andre Agassi. In this autobiography, Andre tells the tale of how he was directed his entire childhood into a life consumed by tennis. As soon as he could hold a racquet, his dad had him hitting tennis balls any time he wasn't eating, sleeping, or going to school. Despite his dedication, Andre consistently tells people, "I hate tennis" - though they never really believe him.

As a former tennis player myself, I found this book absolutely fascinating and also somewhat devastating while witnessing such a sad childhood and watching Andre's internal struggles as a player. Even without knowing much about tennis, I think anyone could enjoy this book. I recommend adding it to your reading list!

Besides going to book club this weekend, I'll be watching lots of basketball - nothing like the tournament!
